GO starts offering WiMAX E-mail Print
Written by HiVoltage

GO has recently announced that WiMAX now forms part of its services portfolio. Although the announcement lacks a number of details such as whether there is full coverage in the Maltese islands, the pricing and specifications have been announced. The price is €13.86 per 30 days with 2Mbps/512Kbps speed - exactly the cheapest ADSL package on offer. The only advantage we are able to see in this offering is that it does not require a fixed telephone line, so those who don't need it may save some money. The savings however may never come into fruition. Digging deeper in the Terms of Service document, there's a clause saying that the customer has to buy all the equipment and pay for the installation for the cost of €500.

Would have been great for people switching to IPhone (VOIP) on GO since there is no need for the POTS telephone line. €500 is steep however!

it's obvious that GO has done this to be able to keep the spectrum, limiting the possibility of any present or future competitor getting a WiMax license. I've never even seen any GO WiMax infrastructure, so I don't think they're expecting any take-up
